If so, hot-dang. Facebook, Towerdata will allow you to upload the email list and give you demographic information on the list. Not only demographic, but other details like interests, purchasing behavior and more.

If you upload a list like this, Facebook and Google can also find similar audiences and market to people who match the profile of the list you uploaded.

Pretty amazing huh? Just export your email list onto a .csv file, which can be done through Microsoft Excel.

Then, you can upload into Facebook, etc. then voila, you have some nice data to work with.

Get Ready to Research

To start, you want to have your main Keyword ready. That helps with all of the tools we will be using.

• You need at least one keyword to start market research
• These are the terms your market/niche uses online.
• Get Keywords from Google Search. Use Adwords, Nichebuilder, SEM Rush – More in depth analysis.

Prepare to Document your finding – Links, photos, ads, funnels, pricing, products, new keywords, social media, authority figures.

Engage while You Go – Sign up for newsletters, social media pages, freebies to get email copy, upsell products, etc.

3. Google Search

Google’s basic search is how many tools gather data for niches.

A simple Google Search with your keyword will tell you Market Terminology, Sub-Niches, PPC, SEO Competition, Ad Copy, Sales Funnels, Competitor sited sand more.  In Google, paid ads can be the top 3 results on the page, and the results on the right hand side of the page.

Action Step –

1. Open up Google Search and type in the keyword you want to research.

2. Is there PPC(paid ads) and SEO? – Look at the top paid and top organic search results.

3. Click through the sites that look interesting, and copy the site’s urls.

4. Also, note the ad copy, headlines, landing page ideas, products, etc.

In Google, paid ads can be the top 3 results on the page, and the results on the right hand side of the page.

The Google Keyword Tool is Part of Adwords. It gives great insights on keywords, competition and trends…what people are searching for.

Here, we can find areas of high demand(search volume) and low supply(products and good information)

3. Ad Group Ideas – Are related groups of keywords that your market uses.  Here you can discover great ideas for content, lead magnet, other products, joint ventures

One trick is to find a popular page in your niche. Then type that into the “Interests” Box to see the audience data for that page.

This is one of my favorite research tools. It helps you discover traffic sources, keywords, and similar websites to analyze.

1. Go to similarweb.com
2. Type in a main competitor or website for your Niche.
*Some site’s won’t have enough traffic to analyze.
3. Scroll Through and notate keywords, main traffic sources and similar websites.
4. Analyze similar websites looking for patterns, ad space.

8. Forums –

Research forums on your topic to find common pain points, product recommendations or improvements, and authority figures.  The are great places to interact with your customers and research problems.

1. Search in google: “forum” + “keywords”
2. Note Ads, popular threads(you can make blog posts with the information gleaned from these), product suggestions, unsolved issues.
3. Also use corporate social media comments to find out where customer’s needs aren’t being met(opportunity).

9. Blogs

Blogs are a great place to get the temperature of your market.

1. Do a search in google for: “Blog” + “keyword”

2. Note the mosts shared and commented blog articles. Read through the comments and get ad copy, language, problems and solutions(product ideas).

10. Amazon Best Sellers

Amazon in General shows what people are buying in a particular niche. The amount of reviews on a product gives an idea of its popularity.

Specifically, I’m interested in books to determine what type of information people are interested in. Also, I can tell what copy(headlines, bullet points) people are responding to.

1. Go to amazon.com
2. Select Books
3. Do a Keyword Search
4. Select Best Sellers
5. Sort down to lowest relevant category.
6. Analyze these books – Use “Look Inside” Feature

What are the most Popular Books:
– Length
– Reviews – Positive Reviews? What are they missing or can do better!
– Subjects
– Headlines/Ad Copy and Benefit Statements
– What your market is responding to. Remember 4hr workweek title copy test.(the author determined the book title using the most clicked headlines from a ppc campaign).
